PathCon Laboratories is a privately-owned company headquartered in Atlanta, with a European subsidiary, PathCon Laboratories EU in Zagreb, Croatia. PathCon scientists are the leading experts in Legionnaires’ disease, offering services of analysis, prevention, and eradication to clients in a wide range of industries, including hospitality, banking, insurance, government, healthcare, facilities management, and industrial hygiene.
Accurate. Specialized. Impeccable reputation.
You know you’re the industry leader when they
name strains after your scientists.
As the first laboratory to offer Legionella testing services to the private sector, we have investigated outbreaks in the U.S. and many other parts of the world. In fact, two of our scientists have Legionella strains named after them. Legionella gormanii and Legionella feeleii were named after PathCon founding scientists Dr. James Feeley and George Gorman.
It’s just one indicator of PathCon’s depth and experience in the field of environmental Legionella detection and prevention. We were the first laboratory to associate levels of Legionella contamination with risk of disease transmission. PathCon’s hazard analysis and remedial action criteria have been adopted by OSHA as guidelines for evaluating levels of Legionella by water source.
Recognized as one of the world’s most respected environmental health firms, PathCon Laboratories (USA) is A2LA accredited in Legionella analysis (A2LA Certificate 3056.01) and participates in the Public Health England Legionella proficiency testing program.
PathCon has participated in the AIHA EMPAT (Environmental Microbiology Proficiency Analytical Testing) program since its inception in 1996 and is accredited by AIHA-LAP, LLC in the field of environmental microbiology for bacteria and fungi (Laboratory ID 102657).
A Reference Lab founded - and run - by scientists.
The PathCon team of microbiologists, medical doctors, epidemiologists, professional engineers and industrial hygienists sets the standard for Legionella detection and prevention around the world.
Here are some of the reasons that make PathCon Labs unique:
PathCon scientists were the first to detect and isolate Legionella from the environment. We developed the laboratory culture methods and media that are used around the world for early and accurate detection of potential Legionella problems before disease transmission occurs.
PathCon Laboratories was the first to show decorative fountains as a source of Legionnaires’ disease outbreaks. We developed hazard analysis criteria for Legionella sample interpretation that is currently adopted by the Occupational Safety and Health Administration (OSHA). PathCon has published numerous peer-reviewed papers on legionellosis. We have also authored and edited the newly published American Industrial Hygiene Association (AIHA) Guidelines 2015.
PathCon is a specialized microbiology laboratory – NOT a chemistry or general testing lab that also happens to offer microbial analysis.
